Be the difference,
by making a difference

The me and my commUnity program was established in 2008 and has had over 600 participants, with representation from every high school in Orange County Public Schools. The participants are high potential, under-served young women in their junior year of high school. Many girls come from socio-economically challenging home environments, often the first to be prepared to attend college, and/or have recently come to the United States. The objectives of the program are:
- To develop the skills, instill a passion, and provide the exposure to understand and solve complex community issues through collaboration and partnership.
- To provide an opportunity for under the radar young women to work alongside community and business leaders as mentors.
- To create and learn the importance of an expanded network of peers, mentors, and community leaders, which may be leveraged for many years.
- To learn how to be the difference by making a difference.
